Scratch and win
is what did me in
certainty rushing its catch,
just a little gray matter,
mind you, under the nail,
and the itch that
proved too much.
I didn't expect
the bargain bin
the bottom barrel's clutch
the dive-in was obviously
destined to fail
a lesson
in life's fishy snatch.
Because I asked him to,
and knowingly
he drowned himself in me,
and only I regret he could not see
my eyes so wet
with love
down at the bottom of the sea
This well
she used to dread
is back,
less vivid now,
its ropes less thick,
its walls recede,
the cavernous
dark dungeon
still underneath
she dares not look down
while slowly climbing up
hoping to get out
night after night
again.
