Not more than just a hint
of your morning smile
rekindles memory of
all the smiles of yesterdays
to multiply their pleasure
and easily imply
the granting back of
thankful nods
to precious moments' paradise
the dancing back and forth
of gentle morning rays
of sun
transporting light
and silent notes,
a promise of
a day's love done.
Pain cuts deeper
than joy uplifts.
Hurt's knife plunges into the
heart
piercing, turning, shredding,
ending stuck to the bone,
then blood congeals around
its dulling edge.
Joy swirls and twirls,
takes you for a fast spin
till you're dancing
on the head of a pin,
and then it's done
its fun all gone.
The leaves that fell
to the bottom of the pool
are still green,
dark shaded where
the stone reflections hold the
cool
upon the surface,
losing composure, here and
there,
to the free flow below,
but not too surprised
by the clear water's heaviness,
memories of treetops splashed,
expected fading of complexions,
dashing of expectations,
visions drowned in a flash.
